Don Brash talks to Sean Plunket about the abolition of the Maori Seats and highlights how long political parties have been promising to do this. Also discussed is the latest race-based position being advertised at Waka Kotahi, and special cultural leave for Maori at Oranga Tamariki. A lively discussion.

This is such a tragedy for our country.
And it’s only going to get worse with dedicated Maori schools being funded by the tax payer. $10m plus for a no expenses spared temporary Maori only school in Rotorua. Committed by Hipkins & Labour, for a maximum of 168 pupils. Pupils being bussed in from a 30k’s away, past another dedicated Maori only school that they can’t attend because they are from a different tribe!!!
$10m for a Marae in Northland committed by Jones & NZ First, while our debt spirals. More of our productivity and exports going to pay the interest.
It’s great to see some Maori taking a stand. Matua, and Arron, who share their passion and abhorrence.
Sorry I let the f-word go again. I should have thought better than that.
To Quote Sean Plunkett " We have a public service which is willfully and deliberately ignoring the will of the people as expressed through parliament".
The public service have become excessively unruly, belligerent, and have created a fiefdom ,self fostered through many years with the blessing of the minded wokearati within central government that not only supported this behavior, but shamefully turned a blind eye to it.
It's all very well to fiddle about at the periphery and change names of organizations to assuage those who can't see through the mire, and can't understand that simply changing the name of an organization won't mean jack shit to those who run it. They simply don't care. A name change means nothing…
an other idea.
Why not do away with %50 of the need for central gov't.... along with its squillions of argumentative representatives.
If we are going to talk change why not take on a proven design.....
A Senator elected by 4 year poll to represent each area of NZ ... Northland, Auckland, Waikato. Hawkes Bay etc.
Along with a non changeable constitution (except by NZ wide referendum) for all areas to abide by. Administered by a trained in obedience and honest civil service. There can be no political affiliation because you abide by the rules of the constitution
Central Government (still in Welly) run by Civil servants doing exactly what civil servants were designed for..... obeying the rules of the…
I support abolishing the Maori seats.
If to be initiated via referendum, may I suggest that the referendum also seek the public’s opinion on:
a) Rescinding MMP
b) Limiting donations to political parties to $100 per person (or related entity) per year
c) Introducing “Rolling Elections” whereby electorate elections “roll” through the country on a monthly basis. For our present 72 electorates, this could be accomplished by two electorates voting every month of the year (assuming a 3 year term for individual MPs).
d) Banning sneaky Cabinet decision-making and require a consensus vote of at least 65% MP support for all government decisions. (Yup, I appreciate that decision-making would be painfully slow, but slow decisions would be a lot…
