Chris Hipkins says there is "an unfolding genocide" in Gaza.
Here's what genocide looks like in numbers:
1939: 9.5 million Jews lived in Europe.
1945: 3.5 million left alive.
Here is Gaza
Gaza 2005: 1.35 million
Gaza 2023: 2.2 million
Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry says 74,494 have died since. That is about one in thirty, and the count includes fighters. Every death is a tragedy. But a population that grows by two thirds and loses one in thirty in a war it started is not a genocide.
Hipkins should know the difference.

Oct 7 was a pure act of genocide, Hamas committed this crime against Jews. This is fact. Genocide is being committed in a number of countries around the world right now. Uyugar in China, Christians in several countries including Syria. Palestines death toll includes ALL deaths including illness and old age. It is fact that Hamas do not openly identify as soldiers so their deaths are counted as civilians. Start a war, end up dead fighting it, you aren’t a victim of genocide,
What happened in Gaza is called Genocide. Those responsible are the ones who perpetrated it and those who enabled and supported it.
The perpetrator of this crime has one name: Israel.
Israel is an occupying entity, and international law recognizes the right of peoples living under occupation to resist it, including through the use of force.
Those who give their lives resisting the occupation of their homeland are called heroes, resistance fighters and martyrs.
Only the vile, the shameless and the morally bankrupt blame an occupied people for resisting their occupier.
And anyone who shifts the blame for the occupier's crimes onto the people being occupied is nothing but a despicable coward.

Thank you for posting this. Hipkins and others need to be held accountable, both to what the facts really are, and for the antisemetic effect of the lies they perpetuate with immunity. I believe the numgber of civillians killed in Gaza is around half the figure stated by the Hamas so-called Ministry of Health'. Ministry of Suffering, Death and Destruction is actually far more accurate.
